St. Demetrios & the children

Outreach is often a misunderstood aspect of Youth Ministry. Outreach must mean more to our kids than just a service project now and then, it must speak to the lifestyle of an Orthodox Christian.

As we look around our world, and even closer to home in our Direct Archdiocesan District, we cannot ignore those that are in need – the homeless, the needy, the sick, the suffering. We must strive not to only do a service project or two in the face of so much adversity, but to change our lives so that we live lives of service or “diakonia” all year round.

In light of that challenge, the Youth Office is always looking for opportunities for our young people and our young adults to further their service work to their communities.

In addition to local GOYA projects such as Midnight Run and Relay for Life, the District Youth Office is again sponsoring its annual “Bears from the Heart.” This project works together with the Ronald McDonald houses of New York City and New Haven to provide children with severe diseases with teddy bears.

For more information on this great program or other service and outreach opportunities, please contact the District Youth Office.

The Direct Archdiocesan District, housed at the Archdiocese in New York City, encompasses parishes in most of New York State, the western half of Connecticut, Washington, D.C. and the Bahamas. The Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministries is led by its director, Fr. Evagoras Constantinides, and is under the pastoral care of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios.
